Vintage 1938 Recording King by Gibson AB-104 Roy Smeck Signature Hawaiian Steel Guitar
This instument is in good, over-all condition, especially considering its age.
Includes original case. The case is in poor cosmetic condition.
The Recording king brand was a house logo of Montgomery-Ward, but this AB-104 Roy Smeck signature hawaiian guitar was manufactured by Gibson in Kalamazoo and is cousin to Gibson's hollow-nody EH-150. Slightly less fancy than all-maple versions from earlier years, this 1938 AB-104 features a single-bound maple top with bent, laminated mahogany sides and a a separate removable mahogany back.
The mahogany neck features a rosewood fingerboard with flat frets and pearl dots. The headstopck has a stenciled Recording king crown logo and Roy Smeck logo, along with the stenciled "Model-AB104"." Serial number DW-145 is stamped on teh back of the headstock and body. All parts appear to be original, including the Charlie Christian-style pickup, bakelite Volume and Tone knobs, pots and wiring, Grover open-gear tuners, and bolt-on aluminium bridge and nut. The cavity is signed by the luthier ("Robert C. Bar").
